Harold Guldberg, age 85, a resident of Crest Hill, IL, was called home to Heaven on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at La Grange Hospital in La Grange, IL. He was born April 30, 1925 in Suttons Bay, MI.
Harold worked for Commonwealth Edison for 34 years first as a field test engineer, and retiring in 1980 as Asst. Superintendent at the Romeoville plant. He spent 21 years of his retirement in Wautoma, WI, in his hand built dream house.
He kept very active there, golfing, and playing bridge. He was very active in his Church, serving on various committees and singing in the choir. He moved back to Carillon Lakes in Crest Hill in 2001.
Harold attended Bethany Lutheran High School, was drafted in 1943, and spent 3 years in the Navy. After discharge he attended night school at IIT and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering.
He was an active member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Downers Grove until his death. He loved to play golf, and bridge.
He was married to the love of his life, Magdalyn, nee Kaepernick, for 63 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife, Magdalyn; son, Erik (Barbara, nee Hausman); daughters, Kristine, and Laura (Charles) Febel; his grandchildren, Melissa Febel (Jeff) Dimitri, Margaret Febel, John Febel, Alexa Febel, Kari Guldberg, Nils (Annie) Guldberg, and Kjerstin Guldberg; and one great-grandchild, Eleanor Dimitri. He is also survived by his brother, Erling; and sister, Katherine.
A visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 525 63rd Street, in Downers Grove, IL, on Friday, February 4, 2011, from 4-8 p.m., and continuing on Saturday, February 5, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL at a later date.
