George Marius Carrera Sr, age 86, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 surrounded by his family.
George was born on July 30, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1954. He worked at Marshall Field's in the furrier department but spent most of his time in their library developing a lifelong love of reading. He was drafted into the US Army in 1960 and served as a Chaplain's Assistant in Korea. After being honorably discharged in 1961, he returned to Chicago. He married Rosemary Lee Booton on April 28, 1962. George went into the photography business with two of his brothers. Carrera Studio took pictures at Chicago Public Schools for many years.
George was an elder at Northwest Bible Chapel (formerly Lakeview Bible Truth Assembly). He spent many years in ministry. Among those ministry opportunities, George visited hospitals, was the Sunday School Superintendent, drove children and youth to camp and other programs, planned and ran dinners, hosted a weekly in-home Bible study and was on call for the needs of anyone in and out of the church.
Beloved son of the late Otilio and late Virginia (Vasquez del Mercado) Carrera. Beloved husband of the late Rosemary Lee (Booton) Carrera. Loving brother of the late Armando (Beatrice) Carrera, the late Dora Carrera, Virginia (the late Roy) Mould, the late Martha (the late Daniel) Smith, William (Lillian) Carrera, the late Charles (Rita) Carrera, the late Robert (Karen) Carrera.
Devoted father to George (Heather) Carrera Jr, the late Ronald Carrera, Laura (Henry) Reichert, James (Elizabeth) Carrera, and Elisabeth (Angel) Rivera. Dearest grandfather of George III (Michelle), Jesse (Clara), Jack, Michaela (Jonathan), Samuel (Melody), Madeline, Dora, Martha, Anna, Daniel, and Jacob. Loved great grandfather to Madison and Thomas. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Private interment at Fairview Memorial Park, 900 N Wolf Road, Northlake, IL. Memorial service Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Northwest Bible Chapel, 5555 N Lotus, Chicago, IL. Visitation from 1:00 - 2:30 pm, service at 3:00 pm, refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry.
